Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Make Barcode Online does — and does not do — with your data. The short version: the barcode generator runs entirely in your browser, and the values you encode never reach us. To learn which pages are useful, we use Google Analytics, which sets cookies; it is described below. If you email us, we keep your message only to reply.

Barcode data

When you type a value into the generator, it is encoded on your own device by a JavaScript library that was downloaded with the page. The value is not transmitted to our servers and not logged. It stays in your browser tab, and closing the tab discards it, with one exception: a PNG or SVG you download is saved on your device, and its file name includes the value. You can verify this by opening your browser's developer tools, switching to the Network tab, and generating a barcode: the value appears in no request. The only requests you will see are Google Analytics page and scroll events and Cloudflare's page-speed beacon, which do not include what you type.

Cookies and storage on your device

We store one preference in your browser's local storage: whether you chose the light or dark theme. It never leaves your device, and clearing your browser data removes it.

Google Analytics sets two first-party cookies on this site: _ga, which holds a random identifier that tells one browser apart from another, and _ga_79DNSG08SS, which keeps track of your current visit. Google sets both to expire after two years; your browser may delete them sooner. We set no other cookies, and none for advertising.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics, a service from Google, to learn which pages are useful and how people find them (measurement ID G-79DNSG08SS). On each visit it records:

• the page address (never anything after "#") and the page title
• the page you came from
• your approximate location, to city level
• your device type, your browser and operating system with their versions, and your screen size and language
• how long you stay on the page
• how far you scroll
• clicks on links to other sites (the link address)
• file downloads from links

Google works out the approximate location from your IP address; Google states that Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. Google Analytics never receives what you type into the generator. Form, site-search and video tracking are switched off. Google signals is off, so your visits are not linked to a Google account, and the automatic detection of emails, phone numbers and addresses is off.

Google Analytics deletes this visit-level data after two months; totals in our reports, such as page views per day, are kept longer. How Google uses this information is explained in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. You can stop Google Analytics from measuring your visits with Google's opt-out browser add-on, or with a blocker that blocks Google's tag. Deleting the cookies above does not stop it, but it starts a new identifier, so later visits are not connected to earlier ones.

Cloudflare, which hosts the site, also adds its Web Analytics script to our pages. It counts page views and measures how fast pages load, how quickly they respond to taps and clicks, and how much their layout shifts. To show where that happened, it names the page elements involved by their CSS selector, never what you type. It works without cookies or local storage, and Cloudflare states that it does not fingerprint visitors by their IP address or browser.

Advertising

This site shows no ads, and nothing on it sets advertising cookies. If that changes, this section will describe the advertising, and the date at the top of this policy will change before the first ad appears.

Hosting

Cloudflare serves the site. Like any web host, it processes each request, including your IP address, your browser and the page requested, to deliver the page and protect the site from abuse. Cloudflare's network error reporting also asks your browser to report pages that fail to load to Cloudflare.

Email

If you email us at hello@makebarcodeonline.com, your message passes through Cloudflare Email Routing and arrives in our Gmail inbox, a Google service. We keep it there only to read it and reply. We never add your address to a mailing list, and we delete your messages if you ask.

Children

This site is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your rights

We run no accounts, and the generator never sends us what you type. Personal data about you reaches us in two ways:

• Analytics. The Google Analytics data described above is tied to the random identifier in a cookie, not to your name or email address, so we cannot look it up by person. Google deletes the visit-level data after two months. Clearing your cookies starts a new identifier, and the opt-out add-on or a blocker stops the measurement.
• Email. If you have emailed us, we keep your messages and your address only to reply, and delete them on request: write from the same address and ask.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date above will be updated. Continued use of the site after a change indicates acceptance of the revised policy.
